Public Safety: An Up and Coming Field

In late 2005, I came to Biloxi work following Hurricane Katrina. This was my first exposure to disaster work. Well, I have to say that it really touched a nerve with me. I am so addicted to this type of work.

Sadly, the job I got with FEMA has come to an end and now, I am out here just trying to find some suitable employment, however, I know that nothing will be quite as rewarding as disaster aid. I've been giving it a lot of thought and I think I may continue my education by working towards a new degree.

A co-worker of mine suggesteded that maybe I should persue a public safety degree. Upon checking into this, I found an online degree that looked promising being offered by Lewis University. The most important thing I found while researching is that their degrees have regional accredidation. This is extremely important to me since many of the jobs require it. Upon looking further at their website, it appears they have a wide range of classes and programs to choose from. The one that interested me the most is the Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Manager. I really think this degree would place me in a competitive position for many government jobs. I think I am going to contact someone there and get some more information.
