Believe me when I say it's true
I always watch all this stuff about being careful when handling food. I think its good and try to follow what they say, even though I wonder, why this wasn't an issue back in early 1970 when I actually did some cooking.
Anyway, day before yesterday, I thought I'd give my husband a break and cook some dinner for us. Sausages...and I must add...my favorite sausages, Johnsonville. I had put a cup of coffee in the microwave to heat up while I put the meat into the pot. When the microwave beaped I simply rinsed my hands under some cool water, grabbed a papertowel and dried my hands. I pulled the cup from the microwave, while still holding the papertowel and saw spots on the edge of the cup...so I wiped the edge of the cup with the papertowel, then drank my coffee while continuing to fix dinner.
Dinner was great and all of us ate exactly the same thing. Two hours later and literally up until last night, I was so sick. Well let me rephrase, not sick...just sentenced to stay and sleep in the bathroom. Everyone else was fine.
So, lesson learned...you don't mess around with raw meat and you do take heed to the safety precautions being promoted.
But, could someone please tell me, why raw chicken and pork weren't a threat years ago??????

I am cautious to a fault when preparing and cooking chicken. It makes me a nervous wreck to think of how sick I'll get if it's not cooked well enough so my chicken always turns out a little burnt. Not sure why there weren't more scares in the past with how raw meat was handled but I'm pretty sure it was processed much different than today. In Japan for example, chicken is loaded with hormones and or tainted with chemicals and people haven't eaten it raw without incident. Their meat is produced in a much safer process.
