One on One Lessons: A review of Web Spanish

Having been born in Miami, Florida, one would think I would already speak Spanish, however that is not the case and it is not from a lack of trying.  When I was a child in the Miami school system, every day was started with the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer and then a Spanish lesson.  Sadly the only thing I really ever learned was to count to ten and how to say hello.  This, I have to say was probably not the school’s problem because all of my friends learned to speak fluently over the years.  No, the problem was my lack of linguistic ability.

Over the years my inability to learn has cost me a lot of money in that I think I have purchased almost every Learn Spanish product on the market to no avail.  It is a well know fact that all of us learn in different ways and finally I have found my way.

If you are like me and truly want to learn Spanish but have had no luck, I have an answer for you.  It is called Web Spanish.  At Web Spanish you will learn Spanish online with a tutor who meets you on Skype and works through lessons with you.  I had no idea when I started how much of a difference this could make.

What you get

When you sign up, the first thing that happens is that you are sent a test to take.  Don’t worry, just see what you can answer or make some guesses.  This tells them where you are in your skills, from beginner with no knowledge to more advanced.  Then they assign you an instructor who contacts you to see what time and days you want to meet.  They will also give you the links to download Skype and a program called Yuuguu (which is conferencing software).

I wasn’t too sure about the Yuuguu but on the first day, the tutor met me on Skype and helped me through the Yuuguu.  She also explained the student dashboard to include what was there and how to use each function.

I felt nervous to begin with but my Tutor, Deysi was so patient and kind.  She spoke great English so there was no problem understanding.  Once I knew all about the dashboard we began the lesson and it was awesome.

She knew from my pretest that I had literally no idea of what I was doing so we started with the alphabet and I believe that is the first time I’ve actually learned it.  We spelled lots and lots of words and I felt so good when the lesson was over.  Now, I say over, but it really isn’t over.  The tutor gives you a small homework assignment and explains how you can make flashcards at your dashboard.  This was very helpful. There are also tons of audio files that go along with your lessons that you can listen to on your own as well as the fact that your lesson is there so you can print it and/or review it.

I was going to make a list of pros and cons but the reality was that I could only come up with positive things.  There were no cons.  Even the price is very reasonable.  If you go with their bite size program it will give you 10 lessons for $17 each, but they have bigger package deals that will get you an even cheaper price.  The bite size program is wonderful so that you can try it out to see if one on one lessons work for you.

If you are serious about learning Spanish then Web Spanish is the only way to go.  Make sure you go to their website to check them out!
